For the past nine weeks, I’ve been posting short pieces of flash fiction, limiting myself to 100 words or less. My good social-media buddy Ziggy Nixon told me that I was actually writing something called drabbles, which I’d never heard of. A bit of research revealed that drabbles are fictional stories consisting of exactly 100 words. As it happens, most of my previous nine mini-stories qualify, so Ziggy was right. Henceforth, my Flash Fiction pieces will be known as Drabbles, and they will each be exactly 100 words long.
Here, then, is Flash Fiction Drabble #10:
Pillow Talk
“I did it.”
She rolled over to face me. “What did you do?”
“I told her it was over. That she could keep the kids.”
She raised her head from the pillow, let the sheet slide from her shoulders. “You’re kidding. Why did you do a foolish thing like that?”
“Huh? So we could be together. Forever. You told me that’s what you wanted.”
Her eyes widened. “When did I say that?”
“Lots of times. The last time we were together.”
Her grating laughter curdled my blood. “Oh, honey. I say a lot of stupid things after a good screw.”
What some people say before...
But we aren't discussing *that* right now...
Thanks for giving me a new label to stick my stuff in.... I like this one, Douglas.
