Old Aidan’s Dinner Guest
The Devil took a seat at the table with Old Aidan and his wife, Margaret. “Pass those potatoes,” he said.
Old Aidan said, “Pass him the potatoes, Margaret. He’s my guest.”
Margaret didn’t move. “I will not serve him,” she said.
Old Aidan slammed his fist on the table. “I insist!”
“The Devil isn’t welcome at my table,” Margaret said. “And if you think otherwise, Old Aidan, then neither are you!”
The Devil stood and extended his hand. “Come with me, Old Aidan. If your wife no longer welcomes you at her table, I’ve a place for you at mine.”
Sad. But very well true to life. Too many people try to force us to choose. Then they are furious because we don't choose them...
