Drabble #75: A Fable
A drabble is a fictional story comprised of exactly 100 words (excluding the title).
A Fable
The grapes hung from a vine just out of the fox’s reach. He leaped for the bunch repeatedly, only to come up short every time. “They’re probably sour anyway,” grumbled the fox.
A bird plucked a grape from the bunch. “These grapes are delicious!” he exclaimed.
“Liar!” the fox cried. “They’re sour.”
“They’re juicy and sweet,” insisted the bird.
“Prove it!” the fox demanded.
The bird descended with a grape and offered it to the fox, whose jaws closed on the bird with a snap.
“Given the choice,” said the fox, “I’ll take fresh meat over sour grapes every time.”

As the old adage teaches us, "The Lord gave us big mouths so that we could swallow a lot of crow."
Nice jam of the sour grapes' tale with "The fox and the crow"! Wily animal!
