Drabble #86: The Slam
A drabble is a fictional story comprised of exactly 100 words (excluding the title).
The Slam
Last inning, bases loaded, two outs, two-strike count. Brian’s team down by three. Brian hasn’t had a hit all day. In fact, he’s struck out every time he’s been up. Pitch on the way... Brian swings!
It’s a bouncer back to the pitcher, who fields it easily. Brian’s shoulders slump.
But the pitcher’s throw to first sails wide! A run scores, then another when the fielder throws wild to second! Brian runs—and the ball gets away again! Brian rounds third…. He slides…. He scores! It’s a grand slam home run! (Trust me.)
Brian will never forget his tenth birthday.
