I’ve decided to start writing flash fiction in my newsletter, and I’m going to shoot for one offering a week. Here’s the rules:
100 words or less (excluding the title).
Genre and subject matter are wide open.
We’ll Pretend It Never Happened
She’ll cry, he told himself. I’ll have to brace myself for that.
He’ll tell her about the woman with the short blond hair. No. The long dark hair and dark eyes. He saw her across the bar and bought her a drink. No. She bought him a drink. And came to him. He was drunk—what could he do? No. He wasn’t drunk. He did it because he wanted to.
She’ll never forgive him.
She frowned, but didn’t cry. “I forgive you,” she said, smiling. “I love you. We’ll pretend it didn’t happen.”
Pretend?
Shit, he thought. Maybe next time.
