I mostly agree... except for the adverb thing! I try to whack them like weeds. I will allow a couple in a complete manuscript, under duress, and when I cannot avoid them, but I like the discipline of doing without.
I’m a firm believer in “all things in moderation.” I acknowledge that overuse of adverbs can be a bad thing, but I also think they can be quite useful. I think a lot of writers underuse them because they’ve had it hammered into them that adverbs are inherently evil.
